David Goeckeler, 63, has been Sandisk's CEO since the spin-off in February 2025. He came over from Western Digital — where he was already CEO — choosing the smaller half of the company he ran.
↓ the brief below
The story behind the CEO
2016–2020
Runs Cisco's networking and security business — eventually as Executive VP and General Manager of one of Cisco's largest groups.
Mar 2020
Joins Western Digital as CEO. Inherits a company carrying both the flash and hard-drive businesses under one roof.
Oct 2023
WDC's board approves the plan to separate the flash business from the hard-drive business. Goeckeler will lead the spun-off entity.
Feb 2025
Separation completes. Goeckeler becomes CEO of standalone Sandisk on day one — and Chair of the Board.
From the Q3 press release · the bet
This quarter marks a fundamental inflection point for Sandisk — where our technology leadership is enabling a deliberate shift in our mix toward the highest-value end markets, led by Datacenter. We are also advancing to a new business model built on multi-year customer engagements backed by firm financial commitments.
↳ Goeckeler is the named voice committing to the strategy: structurally higher margins through multi-year datacenter contracts. Five new-business-model agreements signed across Q3 and Q4. Not a one-quarter story.
