Chapter 5 · Behind the Numbers
The numbers, in the company's own words.
Every filing has a section where management explains what just happened — and why. Here's Redwire's.

✦ The bottom line
Anyone can read the revenue line. The story — how the acquisition reshaped the company, what the backlog signals, and where the losses come from — is the part Redwire writes itself. Here are the threads that matter.
↓ the brief below
Five threads from Redwire's filings
1
It's now two segments: Space and Defense Tech.
The 2025 acquisition created a Defense Tech segment (uncrewed/drone systems) alongside the original space infrastructure business. Redwire now straddles two government-driven markets, each with its own demand and contract dynamics.
2
Backlog is the leading indicator.
Like most space and defense suppliers, Redwire emphasizes contracted backlog — orders booked but not yet delivered. A growing backlog is the clearest sign of future revenue; it's the number to watch alongside sales.
3
Much of the growth was acquired.
The big jump in revenue blends organic space growth with the added drone revenue. The MD&A separates these, and reading them apart tells you how much momentum the underlying business really has.
4
The deal added debt and complexity.
Funding the acquisition brought debt and integration costs that weigh on near-term results. Management's job now is to integrate cleanly and grow into the leverage rather than be strained by it.
5
It rides two government tailwinds.
Both the space economy and national-security autonomy (drones) are seeing rising government spending. Redwire is positioned in both — a strength, but also a dependence on the lumpy, political rhythm of government budgets and contracts.
