Why TIL manufacturing is the moat

Every Amtagvi dose is a one-off product: cells from one specific patient, grown for that patient, returned to that patient. There is no shelf inventory. A competitor can't just license the molecule and start selling it — they would need to build their own cell therapy manufacturing facility, train the workforce, validate the process, get FDA inspection, and contract with hospitals to extract and infuse cells. That is an enormous operational moat — measured in years and hundreds of millions of dollars.

Even if a competitor invents a better TIL drug, the *delivery system* Iovance already runs is itself a barrier.

The other half of the moat is clinical data. Five-year follow-up shows median duration of response of 3 years in heavily pretreated melanoma patients — a profile checkpoint inhibitors don't match. Real-world data is showing 52% objective response rates in patients treated earlier in the disease course.

Amtagvi turnaround time is 32 days or less with the first scaled, centralized commercial manufacturing process for TIL therapy. This is significantly faster than any other TIL therapy in development.
