Ch 1 · Revenue Isn't the Number Yet
Chapter 1 · Growth
Revenue of $32M is a milestone not a product.
Beam's revenue is collaboration income from pharma partners — not sales of an approved drug.

✦ The bottom line
Beam's Q1 2026 revenue of $31.7 million was up sharply from $7.5M a year earlier. But it's all collaboration revenue — payments from partners like Pfizer and Apellis for hitting research milestones. Beam has zero approved drugs and won't until 2027 at the earliest.

Collaboration revenue vs product sales
Biotech companies often have two very different revenue lines. Collaboration revenue is what a partner like Pfizer pays Beam to do research — milestone payments, upfront fees, and reimbursed costs. It can swing dramatically year to year. Product sales are what comes in when a drug is on the market and being prescribed. Beam has only the first kind. The whole investment thesis is getting to the second kind.

Pre-commercial biotech
A 4x jump in collaboration revenue is fine — but it doesn't tell you the company is closer to selling actual drugs. The clinical readouts do.

If revenue isn't the story, what is? For Beam, the real growth metric is the pipeline — specifically how many programs are in the clinic, how advanced they are, and how the data has read out. Q1 2026's most important development wasn't on the income statement: it was the announcement of a 60 mg optimal biological dose for BEAM-302, the lead program.

Real pipeline progress — but the only revenue that matters long-term is what an approved drug sells.
